Joe Versus the Volcano (1990)

This a Covid-19 2020 minireview!

“My father says that almost the whole world is asleep. Everybody you know. Everybody you see. Everybody you talk to. He says that only a few people are awake and they live in a state of constant total amazement.” – Patricia

Number of Times Seen – 1 (6 May 2020)

Brief Synopsis – A hypochondriac who believes he is dying decides to volunteer to become a sacrifice on a secluded island in the Pacific

Bottom Line – Really silly movie that even with Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan in it, fails to give us anything interesting.  The story itself doesn’t work and they tale things to some really strange and weird places that make things even more horrendous to watch. None of the characters are developed at all and they all come across as being quite superficial in all that they say or do along the way. The chemistry between Hanks and Ryan is quiet appalling which is surprising given the amount of chemistry that both deliver when working together in both Sleepless in Seattle (1993) and You’ve Got Mail (1998) over the curse of the next decade.

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – The books that Joe shows to Mr. Waturi describe the plot of the film: “Romeo and Juliet”, “Robinson Crusoe”, and “The Odyssey”. (From IMDB)

Rating – Razzie Worthy (3/10)
