This is Bob Hope… (2017)

“I think the great lesson that came out of Vietnam is we must never blame our troops for a mission that is unpopular. That has lasted and I hope it stays. For us, in the Vietnam era it wasn’t so much fun but, Bob Hope was just steadfast in his support of troops. That meant so much to us in that time when we weren’t accepted when traveling in your uniform meant a certain amount of abuse, a certain amount of negative reaction. Bob Hope was like a beacon for us. It just meant so much, meant so much to me and anybody that I know that served.. but that was him.. he was there all the time.” – Tom Selleck

Number of Times Seen – 1 (15 Jun 2020)

Brief Synopsis – Biography of one of the most popular entertainers of all time who made a name for himself by all that he gave back to the audience.

My Take on it – This is a film that I was quite curious to see because I have always enjoyed Bob Hope’s work, yet didn’t know enough about it.

This is a spectacular documentary that is able to give us great insight into this entertainer.

His life story is told via interviews with friends, family and colleague sin the entertainment industry and they find a way to give us a very comprehensive and thorough overview of his life and how he lived it.

This movie doesn’t even try to shy away from controversy and they dedicate part of the film itself to some of the personal problems that he had over the years.

He is an entertainer known for his work on radio, TV and in the movies, but this film does even more than that because it allows us to see all that he did over his career to give back to the community as much as he could.

The USO has been active for nearly 80 years and that has much to do with his involvement in the organization.

He worked so hard for them over his decades of service and that helped make it all so much more profound and important.

He has been an inspiration to so many others who have taken his lead and doing so much for the needy.

In addition, the movie has lots of examples of his comedy routines along with being able to hear his personal opinions and attitudes on so many great subjects including his own life, his career and the vast influence that he has had on the entertainment industry and upon the world.

This is an extremely influential  and poignant film!

Bottom Line – Spectacular documentary that gives us so much insight into the life of this famous entertainer. Hope’s life story is told via various friends, family and colleagues and they give us such a comprehensive overview of how he lived his life.  They don’t shy away from controversy and some of the film is dedicated to problems that he had in his personal life.  He was known for his comedy work on radio, TV and on films, but this movie does an amazing job showing what he did to give back to his audience. The fact that he was one of the reasons that the USO has been able to constantly produce shows for servicemen and women around the globe is largely due to the hard work he put in to making things so profound and important. The movie shows how inspirational he has always been to the those around him and in turn many followed the examples of what he did for the needy.  In addition, this film allows us to hear some his comedy routines and his own personal insight on his life, his career and the influence he has had on the industry and the world.  Such an inspirational film!  Highly Recommended!
