“When someone asked Albert Einstein what weapons would be used in World War III, he replied “I don’t know. But,” he said, “the fourth war will be fought with stones.” – Gen. Hackworth
Number of Times Seen – 1 (3 Feb 2022)
Brief Synopsis – Two high ranking military officers stationed on the border of the Iron Curtain during the Cold War start their own private war against each other.
My Take on it – Horrendous film that makes very little sense.
This film was made right around the time that the Iron Curtain was about to fall and I assume that they wanted a story that would reflect the disappointment that high ranking officers might have in these situations.
The problem here is that the way that these characters are played just doesn’t seem to work at all in a believable manner.
Both Roy Scheider and Jürgen Prochnow were great actors, but there isn’t any depth to their characters at all.
The actions scenes are quite bland and things feel far too superficial in how they describe everything that transpires here.
The dialogue is too choppy and wooden and doesn’t help make the situations that happen here feel any more real or important which is definitely a shame because this film’s premise does have lots of potential; just not the way it is done here.
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – The pistol Roy Schieder carries in the film is a 3.5″ Colt Officers 1911 Model fitted with a stainless bilateral thumb safety. This would be a personally owned firearm as the US military never purchased anything but standard 5″ 1911’s and Officers models are somewhat uncommon. (From IMDB)
Rating – Razzie Worthy (3/10)
