North to Alaska (1960)

“That’s the trouble with being in love. Even drowning is a relief.” – Angel

Number of Times Seen – 1 (3 Jan 2023)

Brief Synopsis – During the Gold Rush, a prospector sends for his fiancee via his business partner, but when she turns out to be married, he brings his friend a substitute.

My Take on it – Intriguing idea that has its moments. John Wayne always knew how to pick fun roles and this one is no exception to that. The story is filled with some very serious themes, but the humor and comedy is still apparent throughout. The story has some very seedy undertones, but they find ways to deal with those situations. The story works in general and it’s a bit predictable, but that is far from surprising in these kind of romance themed wilderness stories.  Loved the use of the famous song as the theme for this film.

Recommended!

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Years after the production was first shown in public, the producers of the film admitted that, in the scene where Capucine is trying to laugh, she was actually tickled on her feet and that her laughs and pleas for mercy were entirely genuine. (From IMDB)

Rating – Globe Worthy (7/10)
