Genre Guesstimation – Rough Night (2017)

The idea behind this feature (Genre Guesstimation) is for me to watch a bunch of new movies (or ones that I haven’t seen many times) from the chosen monthly GG genre in order to expand my knowledge of movies within that particular genre.

This month’s genre has been chosen by Darren of Movie Reviews 101 and we will be reviewing our favorite Movies featuring beaches or waterfront scenes….

Let’s see if I felt that this movie would be worthy of being in the company of my others favorite movies in the genre of Movies featuring beaches or waterfront scenes……

Number of Times Seen – 1 (2 Mar 2023)

Brief Synopsis – 5 friends travel to a beachfront villa for a bachelorette party, but when things go wrong with the male stripper they hired, they all must find a way to not get arrested.

My Take on it – Hilarious film that works so well. The five actresses who play the leads here are superb together and their chemistry is ecstatic throughout. Scarlett Johansson isn’t someone I would think would work this well in a comedy (as opposed to a drama or action film), but she is great here and helps keep things fun and realistic the whole way through. The film uses raunch very appropriately in order to help make things so enjoyable and entertaining and this also helps show the sparks and honesty among this friendship. There are some key scenes on the beach and that’s why this film clearly fits into this months genre. Ty Burrell and Demi Moore have a great cameo as the naughty neighbors next door. [I give myself extra points here for knowing the crazy astronaut story that they tell here. :)]

Genre Grandeur Worthy? – Comes close. Fun female comedy that works quite well.
