Let’s see what Darren thought of this movie:

Pokémon: Detective Pikachu (2019)

Pokémon: Detective Pikachu is directed by Rob Letterman (Goosebumps, Monsters vs. Aliens and Shark Tale). The movie stars Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool), Justice Smith (Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom) and Kathryn Newton (Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania). It is an adaptation of the video game of the same name.

Pokémon: Detective Pikachu follows a young man Tim Goodman (Smith) who heads to Ryme City to investigate what happened to his father. However, once he gets there, he discovers his father’s Pokémon partner Pikachu and he can communicate with him. The unlikely pairing investigates what happened and uncovers a much more disturbing conspiracy. They must work together to stop a threat to everything they both love from taking over the city.

This is one of the very few positively rated video game movies. It brings the lovable Pokémon to life in the first live-action movie after decades of anime series and movies. Ryan Reynolds’s charismatic voice carries through the unlikely partnership as they deal with the parental problems he has faced. This movie uses the magic of Pokémon and an emotional core to drive the story forward. It has heart soul and cuteness, unlike many other movies.

My Rating 4/5
