“I am out here for you. You don’t know what it’s like to be ME out here for YOU. It is an up-at-dawn, pride-swallowing siege that I will never fully tell you about, OK?” – Jerry Maguire
Number of Times Seen – at least 5 times (Theater in ’96, video, DVD and 16 Jun 2014)
Brief Synopsis – A sports agent has an epiphany and decides to change the way the business is done.
My Take on it – When this movie came out 18 years ago, it was hyped as a heart warming feel good movie about a man trying to live his conscience.
But it is actually much more than that.
The acting is superb, the story is inspirational and Director-writer Cameron Crowe did an excellent job creating this movie.
I’m not the biggest fan of Tom Cruise, but in this movie he was great because of the way he played a character who has an epiphany and does a complete 180 degree turn in his life due to that.
Cruise and his co-star Renee Zellweger have great chemistry together, but two other actors completely “stole” every scene they were in, in this movie.
The first is Cuba Gooding Jr. who garnered an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor that year.
The second one was a young 5 year old named Jonathan Lipnicki who unfortunately hasn’t had much of an impact like he did here for any of his movies or TV shows since then.
This movie has so many great lines and has been extensively quoted over the years, but obviously the most famous line is “Show Me The Money”!!!
Bottom Line – Great heart warming movie. Cruise and Zellweger are both excellent here. One of the most quoted movies of recent years. Great message. Highly recommended!
Rating – Oscar Worthy
