The Sunshine Boys (1975)

kinopoisk.ru“You know what your trouble is, Willy? You always took the jokes too seriously. It was just jokes. We did comedy on the stage for 43 years. I don’t think you enjoyed it once.” – Al Lewis

Number of Times Seen – 2 (27 Jun 2001 and 23 Jun 2014)

Brief Synopsis – Two former comedy partners who can’t stand each other try to find a way to reconcile in order to work gogether one last time on a reunion show.

My Take on it – Niel Simon is one of the best writers of comedy dialogue and the dialogue in this movis is no exception.

The banter between the characters is unbelievably amazing but the storyline and plot leave a lot to be desired.

Walter Matthau and George Burns sre both smzxing in these roles because they work so well off each other.

Burns won a best supporting actor oscar for his role, which is quite amazing since he hadn’t been in a movie in decades and this was seen as his comeback.

The movie was good but just makes you feel that something is missing along the way.

Bottom Line – Some great Neil Simon dialogue doesn’t help a weak storyline. Matthau and Burns are both amazing here as grouchy former partners but something keeps missing the mark in the movie. Burns won a best supporting actor oscar for his role.

Rating – BAFTA Worthy
