“Sometimes it seems as if all is lost and then along comes a sunny day.” – Maria
Number of Times Seen – 1 (17 Jul 2014)
Brief Synopsis – After their daughter dies tragically, a couple decide to try and build a new pediatric hospital in her name. Based on a true story.
My Take on it – I like the idea that this movie tries to offer, but feel that ultimately it fails more than it succeeds.
The story feels very manipulative trying to get us to feel for things that aren’t necessarily there.
The narrative jumps around too much and doesn’t completely come off as coherent all the time.
The story doesn’t even try to develop the characters enough and we are expected to accept that the small narrative introductions should suffice, which they don’t.
Hope Davis and David Duchovny are both ok as the parents, but this movie unfortunately lacks heart.
Bottom Line – Interesting story that feels a bit manipulative but still gives a feel good message about perseverance in fulfilling a dream.
Rating – BAFTA Worthy
