Stardust (2007)

stardust“A philosopher once asked, “Are we human because we gaze at the stars, or do we gaze at them because we are human?” Pointless, really… “Do the stars gaze back?” Now *that’s* a question. ” – Narrator

Number of Times Seen – 2 (5 Nov 2008 and 25 Mar 2015)

Brief Synopsis – A young man ventures into a nearby magical wotld in order to obtain a star for his beloved.

My Take on it – I liked the way this movie created a clever fsntasy world that borders on our own world.

Many of the scenes reminded me of the look and feel of The Princess Bride (1987).

I really liked the way that they added a whole bunch of references to familiar fairy tales and literature even calling a character Shakespeare.

The cast is wonderful.  Michelle Pfeiffer and Robert DeNiro have small but memorable parts. The best cameo tho is Ricky Gervais, who is hilarious in his few short scenes.

My one complaint here would have to be tho that a few scenes seemed to drag on a bit and had they tightened them a bit, it would have been an even better movie.

Bottom Line – Very interesting fairy tale story that is somewhat reminiscent of the magical world from The Princess Bride (1987). Wonderful cast that includes small roles by Pfeiffer and DeNiro. Hilarious cameo role by Ricky Gervais. A few scenes drag a bit otherwise it would have been even better. Recommended!

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – The Princes’ names all refer back to their place in the family; Primus, the first born (Primary); Secundus, the second born; Tertius, the third (Tertiary) and so on in that fashion. Likewise, Una the Princess, is the first-born daughter. This tradition come from Latin, as some Romans called their children after the order of their birth, though usually as a nickname, only sometimes being a given name, especially with daughters. (From IMDB)

Rating – Globe Worthy
