See No Evil, Hear No Evil (1989)

see“We’re in a warehouse, and you just hit a cow. I think we better back up.. ” – Dave

Number of Times Seen – Too many to count (Theater in 89, cable, video, dvd, 5 Aug 1999 and 1 Mar 2016)

Brief Synopsis – A blind man and a deaf man witness a murder and must work together to find the killers before the police pin it all on them.

My Take on it – Who woulda thought that this kind of concept would work and be so hilariously funny?

Gene Wilder and Richard Pryor are perfect together here and help keep the laughs going on and on throughout the entire film.

They collaborated together 5 times over the years and this IMHO is their best and funniest one.

They are able to use the disabilities to help crank out the maximum amount of jokes and laughter possible.

I can rewatch this one over and over and never get tired of the jokes because they are so clever, original and most importantly extremely funny.

Kevin Spacey, Joan Severance and Anthony Zerbe are all great as the villains.  They act as nefarious as possible, but still let the comedy duo of Wilder and Pryor steal the show in every scene.

Bottom Line – Hilarious concept that works so well with the duo of Wilder and Pryor. This is perhaps the best of their five collaborations because they get so into the characters. The laughs just come one after the other and they use the disabilities perfectly to achieve maximum comedy. Spacey, Severance and Zerbe are all perfectly cast as the villains. Highly recommended!

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Gene Wilder almost wasn’t in this movie. Per his autobiography, he turned the script down twice (due to its treatment of the deaf and the blind). He intended to do the same when offered it a third time, but his agent talked him into meeting with TriStar (the studio behind the film). The TriStar people asked Gene to re-write the script for himself and Richard Pryor, which he agreed to do…and the rest is history. (From IMDB)

Rating – Oscar Worthy
