“These kids didn’t want to be there. Y’know, 17, 18, 19 years old, they wanted to be shooting 22’s at rabbits, not M1’s at other young men. They wanted to be throwing softballs, not hand grenades. But there was an evil force loose in the world and it fell to them to have to deal with it because when the challenge came that the society said to them ‘you gotta go out there and fight’ … and they did.” – Stephen Ambrose

Brief Synopsis – Behind the scenes interviews with the cast and crew of Saving Private Ryan (1998)
My Take on it – Saving Private Ryan (1998) is one of the greatest (anti-)war movies ever made and this film gives us a behind the scenes look at how and why it was made.
WE get to see some great interviews with the cast and crew of the film along with insight from historians and some of the men who actually fought in the battles of D-Day to show us how much they got right here.
The best interview of them all though is with Director Steven Spielberg’s father who tells us stories of his son’s youth along with his own stories of his time during World War II.
This interview also gives us much insight into who young Steven was and what led him to tell tales on film including films like Saving Private Ryan (1998).
Bottom Line – Amazing behind the scenes feature because it gives us some great interviews withe the cast, and crew of the film but also insight from historians and some of the men who actually fought on D-Day. The best interview tho comes from the father of director Steven Spielberg because it gives us so much information about his youth and what eventually led him to make a film like Saving Private Ryan (1998) Highly Recommended!
