Snakes on a Plane (2006)

“Sir, are you telling me that your only real flight time is at the controls of a video game?” – Emmett Bradley

Number of Times Seen – 1 (21 Nov 2017)

Brief Synopsis – A federal agent must protect a government witness on the Red Eye flight from Hawaii to L.A.

My Take on it – This film is a rare film that is so silly yet extremely entertaining at the same time.

The premise is extremely silly yet still inventive and it actually works on and off throughout the film.

The only real star ion this film is Samuel L. Jackson who is actually amazing in this film due to his larger than life persona on film.

In retrospect, this film feels like the perfect venue to just try and show how far they could go with the idea of having multiple deaths and injuries from snakes that are just going crazy in an enclosed space.

All of the characters are completely interchangeable and no one besides Jackson really stand out.

That also helps the plot since just about everyone is completely expendable.

I’m actually surprised that it took me so long to finally see this film because I recall watching Jackson on a talk show (Leno maybe) raving about the fact that he chose to appear in the film mainly due to the premise and title.

Having read the trivia below gives more insight into that particular theme.

Bottom Line – So fun, yet so silly.  Very inventive premise that works and doesn’t work at the same time. Jackson is amazing here because of his larger than life on screen presence. Feels like a venue just to try and show innovative ways of having snakes attack but the entertainment factor is definitely present.  Not something I will probably ever see again, yet I am glad that I  saw it at least once.

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Contrary to popular belief, Samuel L. Jackson‘s agent insisted that the title be changed, because Jackson “couldn’t” work on a film with such a title. When Jackson heard about all of this, he responded with the much cited comment, “We’re totally changing that back. That’s the only reason I took the job: I read the title.” (From IMDB)

Rating – BAFTA Worthy
