Number of Times Seen – 1 (30 Jul 2018)
Brief Synopsis – When the dinosaurs on the island of Jurassic World are threatened by a volcanic eruption that could killed them all, a few daring scientists try to save as many of them as they can.
My Take on it – This is a film that I’ve been interested in seeing ever since it came out last month solely for the purpose of curiosity.
I’m a HUGE fan of the original Jurassic Park (1993) and doubt that any of the sequels made will ever be able to come close to achieving what that film did on so many levels.
This film has its moments and is filled with thrilling scenes yet still lacks so much in terms of the story.
I have always been a fan of Chris Pratt and both he and Bryce Dallas Howard are fun to see return because they add continuity to the story.
It’s always fun to see Jeff Goldblum and even if he only appears here in an expanded cameo, he still is amazing to watch.
The new characters are all fine, but none feel developed enough for us to really care whether they become Dino-fodder or not or even to care if they are good intentioned or nefarious in their motives.
As always, the special effects and CGI in these films are superb and they still are able to move forward in their ability to make these dinosaurs look and feel even more real.
Bottom Line – Sequel that is almost as good as the film it bases all its ideas on but still far away from the original film in terms of enjoyment and thrills. The returning cast are quite good with Pratt and Howard doing nice jobs here. Always fun to see Goldblum, even if his role is an expanded cameo. The additional characters are also fine, but we aren’t given enough of a reason to care about them or their goals whether they be good intentioned or nefarious. The special effects and CGI are once again amazing, but I still prefer the original and these sequels all feel as if they are being made solely for financial reasons instead of truly trying to add more poignant information to the general idea. Recommended!
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – In an interview with Vulture, Jeff Goldblum said that he does not mind at all when he gets asked to essentially play himself on the big screen. “People write Jeff Goldblum-y parts and they want me to do them, and that’s fine,” he said. “I think I can even do a better version of it. So no, this little Jeff Goldblum row that I’m hoeing is still adventurous.” (From IMDB)
Rating – Globe Worthy (7/10)
