The Scorpion King 3: Battle For Redemption (2012)

“[to Mathayus] You should know better than to back an animal into a corner.” – Talus

Number of Times Seen – 1 (1 Mar 2019)

Brief Synopsis – As an assassin for hire, Mathayus must work for an evil king in order to regain power to have his own kingdom again.

My Take on it – This is a film that I’ve been avoiding seeing ever since it came out 7 years ago because I didn’t have any expectations for a film like this to be any good or for that matter enjoyable.

The fact that Darren of Movie Reviews 101 chose it for next month’s Franchise MOTM at the LAMB made me take the plunge especially since this is the 3rd of the 5 films in the series that I have now committed myself to watching within the next week or so despite knowing that I will not necessarily enjoy anything about the films in this series.

This is yet another horrendous and pointless addition to this series since it fails to really add anything to advance the story of the hero in an interesting fashion.

This movie has a few nicely choreographed fight scenes but they are overwhelmed by the really dull and boring storyline.

The characters aren’t interesting at all and it’s quite hard to care about any of them or about what they do.

The story is quite cheesy and makes little sense.

The only hope this film gives is that it will eventually end and hopefully they will stop making these films.

SPOILER ALERT! – there are still two more to go (so far).

They will probably keep churning out films in this series forever because it’s clear that their production value is quite low, so they must be making money with each subsequent gut retching film in the series.

This film tries to gain more prominence with the addition of Ron Perlman, but even he can’t help make this more enjoyable or even interesting to watch.

Bottom Line – Another terrible addition to this series that does absolutely nothing to advance the storyline. There are some nice choreographed fight scenes, but overall , this is a really dull and uninteresting film. The characters aremn’t interesting enough to care about and the story is so cheesy that one can’t wait for it to fionally come to an end with the hope that this will be the last of the series…spoiler alert, it’s NOT!  They will probably keep churning out these horrendous films as long as they still are able to make a little bit of money since this series can’t cost much to make because the production value looks quite low throughout. Even the addition of Ron Perlman doesn’t help this at all.

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – This film is a sequel to a prequel to a prequel of a sequel of a remake. That is, it is a sequel to the prequel to The Scorpion King (2002), which is a prequel to The Mummy Returns (2001), which is a sequel to The Mummy (1999) which can be considered as a loose remake of The Mummy (1932). (From IMDB)

Rating – Razzie Worthy (2/10)
