Avengers: Endgame (2019)

This is a non-spoiler review of the film, so no need to shy away before reading if you haven’t yet seen the film.
“Part of the journey is the end.” – Tony Stark

Number of Times Seen – 1 (24 Apr 2019)

Brief Synopsis – In the wake of the chaos that Thanos created in Avengers: Infinity War (2018), the Avengers must find a way to move forward and find a way to restore order to the Universe.

My Take on it – One of things that I love about being a movie blogger in a foreign country is the fact, that quite often, we get mainstream films a day earlier than moviegoers in the US and sometimes even the UK.

I don’t spend as much time in the theater as I would like, but when big releases like this film come out, I do my very best to try and see it before a large portion of the world.

This is a film that the world has waited to see for a year and it is probably safe to say that it’s one of the most anticipated films ever.

They do a great job of continuing the storyline of the previous film as things start off right where that film left off.

The way that they continue the journey and trials of these characters is done really enjoyably and they find a way to keep things interesting, intriguing and even gripping along the way.

When scaling this film down to its raw material, it’s just another superhero popcorn film yet even though there is much that remains predictable along the way, they find a way to keep things flowing and surprising in the way they present everything.

This film does a great job of taking the 21 storylines brought forth before it and keeping things moving forward while still referencing each of these films along with other great pop culture references along the journey that these characters take.

These references help forge new connections between the character, sometimes through comic moments and it plays a large part as the glue that brings together all of these great characters and storylines into one epic event.

This movie does the previous film much justice in the way that they allow the storyline to move along without trying to dupe us along the way.

We are now over 11 years from the beginning of this MCU movie journey and they have done a beautiful job so far of making a universe with superheroes look and seem so plausible.

The amazing special effects obviously enhance that feeling, but it’s the character development that really helps make us believe it all.

This film may not be perfect or the best superhero film ever made, but it still comes quiet close especially due to it’s very ambitious ideas which make things quite enjoyable and I can’t wait for the opportunity to see this film yet again to catch anything I might have missed along the way.

It will now be very interesting to see where the MCU goes from here and I for one am quite intrigued.

Bottom Line – Great continuation to the Infinity War storyline. They manage to continue the journey of these characters and keep things interesting, intriguing and gripping throughout. As a superhero popcorn movie, there is a lot that happens along the way that is quite predictable, yet they still find fun ways to keep things flowing.  This is a great culmination of the events of the 21 films before it since they manage to join together so many references to those films where it be character-wise, comedy wise or even as part of the way to glue together the plot of this film.  They do the previous film much justice in the way that the storyline moves along directly from where things left off without trying too hard to dupe us as things move forward. This is a film that was definitely worth the wait of 12 months to see and even worth the 11 year wait from the beginning of the MCU to see where things would lead.  We are quite far from that starting point and they have done a beautiful job so far keeping the overall MCU storyline injected with much enjoyment the whole way through.  Great special effects once again allow us to see a Universe with superheros as a plausible one. Can’t wait to see this film again even if it isn’t perfect!  Highly Recommended!

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – All of the footage used in trailers and TV spots are reportedly from the first 15-20 minutes of the film, according to Kevin Feige. With two trailers, two TV spots, a “special look” ticket sales announcement, and a 181 minute runtime, we have seen about 3% of the final film so far. (From IMDB)

Rating – Oscar Worthy (9/10)

  2. Nicely non-specific in avoiding spoilers! I for one loved this movie. It certainly has its imperfections, but it’s such an epic and satisfying end to the story thus far.
So what’s the ??? mean in your rating? Still haven’t decided? 🙂
