Guilty As Sin (1993)

“See, people like us Miriam, we’re – we’re warm. But she’s a – she’s an attorney.” – David Greenhill

Number of Times Seen – 1 (3 Jul 2019)

Brief Synopsis – A successful defense attorney is hired by a man accused of killing his wife, but soon realizes that she is trying to defend a very intelligent psychopath.

My Take on it – This is a film that I’ve been interested in seeing for years, but never had the opportunity to do so until now.

The plot is quite intriguing yet they fail at making this story as thrilling as one would hope for.

Rebecca DeMorney was a great choice for the lead here and she helps make us see how great her character is at her job and is among the bets of her profession when it comes to defending criminals.

Don Johnson’s character, on the other hand, is much more difficult to believe because his character’s over confidence in everything despite the fat that both the viewer and the character is quite aware that things aren’t truly that way.

This film has a fine supporting cast an Jack Warden stands out among them,

Stephen Lang, on the other hand, doesn’t do enough with his character and being that he is underdeveloped makes him come across as much too ‘whimpy’ which raises the question as to why DeMorney’s character wants to spend her life with someone as one dimensional as he is.

The plot is quite predictable and there are very few surprises along the way which ends up hurting things since there isn’t much suspense in this storyline.

Bottom Line – Very intriguing idea that doesn’t work as well as one might hope.  DeMorney is quite good in the lead and we can easily see how great her character is at her job and is among the very best at her profession. Johnson’s character is more of a problem because he seems much too overly confident of things despite the fact that he sees proof that things are not truly that way.  The supporting cast is fine and Warden stands out among them. Lang actually plays his character too ‘whimpish’ and makes the viewer wonder why DeMorney’s character would be going out with someone like him.  The plot is a bit too predictable and that hurts things a lot since there isn’t enough suspense along the way.

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Although it is set in the United States (presumably Chicago), filming was done exclusively in Canada. (From IMDB)

Rating – BAFTA Worthy (5/10)
