Child Stars: Their Story (2000)

“Having to deal with fa me at an early age. having to deal with making a lot of money, having to deal with being tre ated in unreal way, an over-positive way, not a real way. We’ve all had to deal with it, so at the core, it’s all the same and now you get to see how it morphed itself; it’s fascinating.” – Tony Dow

Brief Synopsis – A documentary about the way that former child stars have had to cope with the reality that they were no longer wanted in the industry once they began to grow up.

My Take on it – This is a film that I came across by accident and was intrigued about seeing how life has treated these former child stars.

They give us a very open view of how their lives ave been affected by their fame both for the good and for the bad.

The film is fascinating in the way that we get to see which of them were able to break free of the tragic path that many of their colleagues and contemporaries were faced with.

This film utilizes a great idea of having the former stars from various eras be a part of a round table discussion on the way that their lives have been affected both during their tenure as stars and for years and decades afterwards.

This allows us to get a much wider scope of how many of the problems would repeat themselves over the years.

It was great seeing how open they all were about the various difficulties of childhood fame that has subsequently affected them for their entire lives.

Bottom Line – Interesting look at how the lives of former child stars have been affected by their fame. It’s fascinating to see which of them managed to live normal lives afterwards and break away from the tragic path that many of their colleagues went down. The idea to have round table discussions between child actors from different eras discuss the various issues that have affected their lives is great and allows us to get a much wider scope of the way that they have had to live their lives ever since their “fame” dissipated.  Loved the way that they were all quite open about the difficulties that followed them both during their tenure as stars and for years if not decades afterwards because it gives us so much insight into who these actors were that we were so enchanted with during their youth. Recommended!
