Number of Times Seen – 1 (18 Nov 2019)
Brief Synopsis – An aging hitman getting ready to retire is targeted by a clone of himself.
My Take on it – This is a film that has a very clever premise that works better than it should due to the casting of Will Smith in the lead role.
Smith is able to play the different versions of himself in a plausible way (via special effects obviously) due to his agility.
The film uses special effects quite effectively as we get to believe the de-aging process used here.
The film has some really fun action scenes that stay thrilling throughout.
The biggest problem here tho is the fact that the story itself feel unfinished and therefore we get too many plot holes along the way.
The story should feel more gripping especially once we get a clear idea of everything that is really going on.
Mary Elisabeth Winstead is a nice choice for the female lead but her character isn’t developed well enough to a point where the story would become more effective.
Bottom Line – Fun action film with a clever premise that works because of the casting of Smith who is agile enough to play both versions of the character in a realistic fashion. The special effects are great and help make things more convincing. The action scenes are planned out well and remain thrilling throughout. The biggest problem tho is that the story has too many plot holes and doesn’t feel gripping enough especially once they start to reveal what is really going on. Winstead does a fine job as Smith’s co-star but her character doesn’t feel developed enough to be even more effective.
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – The original script was written for Clint Eastwood. (From IMDB)
Rating – BAFTA Worthy (6/10)
