Number of Times Seen – 1 (17 Nov 2020)
Brief Synopsis – During Thanksgiving break from college, a young man brings his girlfriend home to meet his father and brother, but things get complicated when his brother starts to fall for her.
My Take on it – This is a film that I had never heard of before coming across it during my research for this blogathon.
The film’s setting of Thanksgiving is a sharp contrast to the characters since they all seem to be seeking forgiveness for things they have done in the past.
The story is presented in a completely off the wall way that is far too jarring here.
The characters all feel far too disconnected and none are intriguing enough to truly care about what they do especially given the fact that they aren’t very likable in all that they say or do.
The film has a talented cast, yet even with the likes of Adam Scott, Brittany Snow, Alex Frost and J.K. Simmons things aren’t more enjoyable or engaging to watch because they all play these characters over the top.
The overall premise of this film has been done before and nothing feels unique or original enough in everything that occurs.
The pacing of this movie is terrible because places that should be drawn out are too quick and scenes that should be quick are more drawn out than necessary.
Bottom Line – Completely off the wall film that is jarring because of the way that the characters are presented but also disconnected because it just is’;t powerful enough. The cast is fine with Scott, Snow, Frost and Simmons each giving performances that are a bit too over the top. None of the characters are likable enough here and that hurts things a bit too much. The overall premise of the film doesn’t feel original or unique enough and that is quite problematic here. The story is paced really poorly and scenes that should be quicker are drawn out and scenes that need to be drawn out are too rapid.

Good review! Speaking of movies with unlikeable characters, I recently reviewed the 1934 film, Twentieth Century. All of the characters in that film had terrible personalities to varying degrees, to the point where I didn’t care about their stories because I lost investment in them. Thanks for joining my blogathon!
