One Night in Miami (2020)

“Everybody talks about wantin’ a piece of the pie, well I don’t. I want the goddamn recipe! ” – Sam Cooke

Number of Times Seen – 1 (19 Jan 2021)

Brief Synopsis – Fictional meeting between four famous civil rights activists in 1964.

My Take on it – This is a film that I heard about months ago and was quite intrigued to see what it was all about.

I was somewhat familiar with each of these four characters prior to watching this film, but they do a wonderful job of giving an even larger impression of who each of these four men were.

The overall premise is an intriguing one that works most of the time.

The film is based on a play and remains engaging due to the superb dialogue between these characters since their interactions are quite enjoyable to watch unfold.

The film has a great cast and they each are great in their respective roles.

They also help make this fictional meeting feel even more realistic and believable.

The film’s choice of these particular figures is great because it allows us to get an impression of each of them since they were each very prevalent in differing fields including politics, football, boxing and the entertainment industry.

The choice of the time and place for this meeting is quite profound because each of them were at the height of their various careers in 1964 and would move in different directions afterwards.

Bottom Line – Intriguing idea that definitely has its moments. The dialogue is superbly written and that enhances many of the interactions between these iconic figures who never actually met like this. The cast is great and they help make us believe that this kind of meeting could have occurred between these characters. This film is based on a play that relies heavily on the views of each of these characters. The choice of these figures is great because of the impact that each of them had in different fields during the heights of their various careers. Recommended!
