The American (2010)

“You cannot deny the existence of hell. You live in it. It is a place without love.” – Father Benedetto

Number of Times Seen – 1 (27 Apr 2021)

Brief Synopsis – A hit man travels to Italy in order to hide out while he plans another mission.

My Take on it – Really boring spy thriller that is pretty pointless in the way that things are shown.

George Clooney is a great actor and (sometimes) director, but this film makes so little sense and even his gravitas as an actor can’t help make things more entertaining to watch.

The pacing is far too slow and doesn’t allow for things to move along in a more enjoyable way which is quite a shame.

None of the characters are developed at all and this makes things even more frustrating to watch because we know so little about the way that things.

Much of the plot is presented is a very banal and strange way and that leaves things so much more confusing.

The one aspect of this movie that is nice is the cinematography because we get to see the beauty of the various countrysides despite the fact that the story itself makes little sense.

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – With the influx of cast and crew, the existing population of Castel del Monte – 129 people – was more than doubled. When a crew member needed emergency dental work, he had to go to a nearby town as the answering machine of Castel del Monte’s dentist declared that he was “unavailable, due to his appearance in a Hollywood film.” (From IMDB)

Rating – Razzie Worthy (2/10)
