Brief Synopsis – After a Russian submarine disappears during The Cold War, both the Russians and Americans try to figure out whether its intentions are for good or evil.

My Take on it – Such an amazingly plotted thriller that keeps the viewer on the edge of their seat from start to finish.

They do a wonderful job translating this story to the screen from Tom Clancy’s best selling novel.

The cast is superb with Sean Connery, Sam Neill, Alec Baldwin and James Earl Jones leading the way.

The dialogue is filled with lots of political and military jargon, but it still manages to stay comprehensible to a layman audience.

Scott Glenn and Courtney B. Vance are both amazing here and help make things even more engaging and enjoyable to watch unfold.

The way that the main characters jump around various locations in order to fulfill the mission works really well in helping establish much realism in the movie.

The cat and mouse aspects of the story work so well and that help keep things so suspenseful and thrilling throughout.

Baldwin is the best Jack Ryan on the big or small screen and its a shame that he didn’t continue playing this role.

Highly Recommended!

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – After the release of Tom Clancy’s novel “The Hunt for Red October,” some members of Congress contacted the CIA, demanding to know why the Russians had invented a caterpillar drive before the U.S. Navy did. Although a result of good research, the caterpillar drive is pure fiction. (From IMDB)

Rating – Oscar Worthy (9/10) (no change from original review)
