The Blacksmith (1922)

Number of Times Seen – 1 (19 Nov 2022)

Brief Synopsis – A blacksmith deals with modern and classical aspects of the job.

My Take on it – Once again, Buster Keaton is able to make a fun short film with the need for very little.

The story is simple and they know how to cull as much laugh as possible from the various situations that he gets into.

Love the magnet gag especially because it seems so unexpected.

The  way that they have this character deal with horses and cars is great because it shows how a profession can change when technology changes.

The way that they use a helium balloon is ingenious because it works so well.

Love the way that the scene with the pulley works especially given the weight and power of the engine.

Recommended!

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – The gleaming Rolls-Royce destroyed in the film was reportedly a wedding present given to Buster Keaton by his in-laws. By the time this film was made, relations with them had soured considerably. (From IMDB)

Rating – Globe Worthy (7/10)
