Chupa (2023)

“If you happen to see anything strange or unusual, don’t hesitate to call.” – Richard Quinn

Number of Times Seen – 1 (23 May 2024)

Brief Synopsis – A young boy befriends a mythical creature and must try and keep him safe from a fortune hunter with the help of his grandfather.

My Take on it – This is a film that feels far too similar to so many other films. The characters aren’t as developed as one might hope for and there are even scenes that seem like replicas or re-imaginations of scenes from better and more iconic films in this vain.  The cast is fine here and I liked seeing Demián Bichir in the role of the grandfather. He does the best work here of any of the cast, yet still doesn’t manage to help make this film more endearing. Having Christian Slater as the villain is a bold move, but it doesn’t pan out and it’s very difficult to believe him in this kind of role.

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – They used a real dog on the set as a stand in for Chupa. This was because the filmmakers thought its better with a real animal than just a puppet to act with. The dogs name is Harper. Its not stated what kind of dog Harper was. (From IMDB)

Rating – Razzie Worthy (4/10)
