Genre Guesstimation – Red Lights (2012)

The idea behind this feature (Genre Guesstimation) is for me to watch a bunch of new movies (or ones that I haven’t seen many times) from the chosen monthly GG genre in order to expand my knowledge of movies within that particular genre.

This month’s Genre was chosen by Anna of Film Grimoire and she chose Latin Directed Films as the Genre for March.  If you want to still submit a movie, the deadline is 27 March. Just send it to me at latin@movierob.net

Let’s see if I felt that this movie would be worthy of being in the company of my others favorite movies in the genre of Latin Directed movies…

Red-Lights“You know, there are two kinds of people out there with a special gift – the ones who really think they have some kind of power, and the other guys who think we can’t figure them out. They’re both wrong. ” – Margaret Matheson

Number of Times Seen – 1 (22 Mar 2015)

Brief Synopsis – A pair of scientists who deal with the supernatural elements, work together to debunk the frauds who want to make it all seem real.

My Take on it – The idea of whether paranormal events really occur or not in our world is a fascinating topic and this movie gives us a compelling argument by showing us people who spend their lives trying to prove or disprove that existence.

In general, the movie works in making us believe everything that happens, but there are a few scenes that actually leave that realm and slightly take away from the experience.

Sigourney Weaver, Robert De Niro and Cillian Murphy are all great here and this is an interesting tale to be told with a few nice surprises along the way.

Bottom Line – Interesting movie that works most of the time in convincing us that it’s real. Eish it eoikd gave been slightly better tho. Weaver, De Niro and Murphy are all top notch. Recommended!

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – At the end of the ending credits, the film’s title flickers in a similar manner to the way light bulbs behave in the presence of psychic activity throughout the film.(From IMDB)

Genre Grandeur Worthy? – Nope. wasn’t gripping enough to be among my favorites despite having an interesting theme.

Rating – Globe Worthy

  1. I think NOW I will actually watch this! You dont know how many times I would set it up to watch on Netflix then never start it and turn to something else. I will give it a go, Rob. Thanks man!
