Jupiter Ascending (2015)

jupiter-ascending“It can be difficult for people from underdeveloped worlds to hear that their planet is not the only inhabited planet. ” – Caine Wise

Number of Times Seen – 1 (3 Jun 2015)

Brief Synopsis – A young woman finds out that she is the heir to an alien inheritance and must try and save the prople of Earth from certain destruction

My Take on it – I remember seeing the preview for this in the theater (I think with Interstellar (2014) ) and it looked visually amazing.

They are able to maintain a high level of cool visual effects including laser duels that incorporate personal shielding but the plot and storyline just isn’t entertaining enough.

Ever since the Wachowski brothers gave us the original Matrix, they have been seeking for another hit and despite their best efforts, this one isn’t it.

The irony is that both movies have some shared themes that SHOUT OUT to us that they like certain recurring plot elements.

The cast is ok. Sean Bean, Channing Tatum and Mika Kunis are all fine here, but they just didn’t have a good enough story and plot to work with.

Bottom Line – Visually, this movie looks great, but the story is really weak. The Wachowski brothers still haven’t been able to once again create cinematic magic since the original Matrix despite their best efforts. Kunis, Bean and Tatum are good but not great.

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Terry Gilliam (former member of Monty Python and director of Brazil (1985) has a cameo during the scene where Jupiter is processing her title paperwork. During the scene, Central Services is mentioned and Jupiter mentioned having to fill out a 27B/6 form. Both are mentioned more than once in Brazil (1985). (From IMDB)

Rating – BAFTA Worthy

    • Absolutely no need to feel ashamed. How can any of us know what will be great or crap before we see it. The trailer was amazing looking so they managed to fool a lot of us
