Thanks to Gill of Reelweegiemidget for this recommendation.

Here are her thoughts on the film.

Number of Times Seen – 2 (18 Apr 2010 and 7 Sep 2016)

Brief Synopsis – A London police officer is promoted and transferred to a rural station where things aren’t as pleasant and quiet as they seem.

My Take on it – I have always been a fan of Simon Pegg’s work and  when he teams up with Edgar Wright, you know that you’re in for a treat because they really know what they are doing…most of the time.

They are able to develop a slew of characters really well and even give them funny names that are quite apropos.

They also know how to walk the fine line between comedy and drama and the way they mix them together is great.

THis movie has a great cast and I liked the choices made for the whole cast especially the townspeople.

It’s actually a bit surprising how many famous actors are in this film; Timothy Dalton, Edward Woodward, Martin Freeman, Bill Nighy, Nick Frost, Paul Freeman, Stuart Wilson, Jim Broadbent, Rafe Spall and  Paddy Considine

The main problem that I had with this movie tho is the way that they did the final 30 minutes or so.

It all felt completely silly and in some ways they almost ruined such a fun film by adding in this extraneous silliness.

I think they should have cut down that last part and it would have made the film even stronger and better.

Bottom Line – Always been a fan of Pegg and Wright and they get most of it right. The characters are well developed and general given humorous but spot on names. They get the fine line between comedy and drama just right. The cast is great also especially some of their choices for the townspeople. The main problem I had was that the last half hour felt a bit extraneous and should have been cut down because it added too much silliness to a really fun film and partially ruins the whole thing. Recommended!

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – When in costume Nick Frost and Simon Pegg often were assumed to be police officers. Many strangers asked them for directions and instead of telling the truth they went along with it. They claimed it made them feel powerful. (From IMDB)

Rating – Globe Worthy
