“‘Twas a long time ago, longer now than it seems in a place perhaps you’ve seen in your dreams. For the story you’re about to be told began with the holiday worlds of auld. Now you’ve probably wondered where holidays come from. If you haven’t I’d say it’s time you begun. ” – Santa
Number of Times Seen – 1 (15 Sep 2016)
Brief Synopsis – When the king of Halloween stumbles upon Christmas, he decides to kidnap Santa and take it over
My Take on it – This is a movie that I never really had a desire to see because the synopsis just didn’t interest me.
I finally succumbed to the pressure to see it and my original instinct seems to have been right.
First of all, the themes of the film are much darker than I usually prefer and although this really a horror or scary kind of movie, it definitely is borderline with the theme depicted.
The songs were very Tim Burton-ish which obviously isn’t very surprising since he wrote this film along with his usual Musical collaborator Danny Elfman who actually sings the songs of the main character.
The animation tho is the main reason to see this because it really is incredible to watch and in some ways makes it more kid friendly (not really, but lets say it does) 🙂
I guess I can understand how people can really like this movie, but as I said before, it really wasn’t my kind of thing and I doubt this kind of movie will ever be because the themes are just too dark for me to enjoy.
Bottom Line – Couldn’t really connect with this story or the tone of it all. I’m not in the least surprised by the fact that this idea came from the mind of Tim Burton. The animation is done extremely well and even makes the whole thing seem more kid friendly (eventhough it isn’t). I can understand why people could like this, but it just really wasn’t for me.
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Was originally going to be a part of the Disney Animated Features canon, but was deemed too scary to be released under the Walt Disney Pictures banner. (From IMDB)
Rating – BAFTA Worthy

Totally agree with you. The stop-motion is impressive, but it’s just too dark and Burton-y for my taste.

This is a favourite of mine. I adore Lock, Shock and Barrel. I can understand why it’s not for everyone though.
