Brief Synopsis – A college student tries to earn money over summer vacation in order to cover his own tuition by working in a pizza parlor but things get out of hand and he begins to find out that lonely housewives pay more for companionship than just pizza.
My Take on it – This is a film that was part of Patrick Dempsey repertoire of coming of age film in the 80’s where he transdforms his character completely during the course of the film.
He actually helped perfect this kind of role after Meatballs III (1986) and of course Can’t Buy Me Love (1987), but he doesn’t really manage to advance the idea that much further here
The premise about a pizza guy turned gigolo would only work in the 80;s and the story itself juts gets crazier and crazier as the film moves along.
The best thing about this film is its supporting cast, we get to see so many familiar faces in these small roles and it’s always fun to see who will pop up.
Carrie Fisher, Kate Jackson, Kirstie Alley, Vic Tayback and Robert Picardo all are great here.
Bottom Line – Premise that is really something that would only work in the 80’s due to the way that it gets completely out of hand. Dempsey is fine in this role that he himself perfected after playing this kind of character so often during his youth. The supporting cast is great because there are so many familiar faces that keep popping up. The story itself is completely not realistic but still has its moments.
