Daddy Day Care (2003)

Brief Synopsis – Two unemployed fathers decide to open a day care service that rivals a local day care center helmed by a strict principal.

My Take on it – I recall a time when just hearing that Eddie Murphy was in a particular film, it was possible to be excited about it.

That no longer is true and unfortunately hasn’t been for quite some time.

Murphy and Jeff Garlin have such poor chemistry together that it makes you question how this film was made with the idea of the two of them starring together.

Overall, his film is completely unfunny and barring a few jokes that make you chuckle, there isn’t much to expect here.

The only bright spot in this film is Steve Zahn, who really brings a fun tine to his scenes.

Unfortunately, his character is largely underused.

I’m still shocked that someone actually believed that this would be a good idea; it actually is quite creepy (as a parent) thinking about sending one’s kids to a day care center run by these two guys.

Bottom Line – Has its moments, but this film is over pretty unfunny. Murphy and Garlin have no chemistry together and it comes across as quite pathetic. It’s interesting to see how far Murphy has fallen less than 20 years after he was such a huge box office draw for comedy.  Why would anyone seem to think that this would be a fun idea? The only bright spot in this film is Zahn who brings a fun tone to it all, but is unfortunately way underused.

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – When Phil slides into scene with his guitar, it’s an obvious nod to Tom Cruise’s famous underpants slide in Risky Business. Even the staircase is replicant in the background. The only difference is that Phil slides in from the right instead of from the left and he is fully clothed. (From IMDB)
