Made in Dagenham (2010)

“All right, um, everybody out!” – Rita O’Grady

Number of Times Seen – 1 (9 Dec 2018)

Brief Synopsis – Based on the true story of the strike by female seamstresses working for an automobile company in 1968 in an attempt to receive equal pay.

My Take on it – This is a film that I had never heard of before watching and came across it when tying to watch more films starring Rosamond Pike.

She actually only has a small role here even if its a pivotal one yet still doesn’t manage to do enough in it.

They do a great job depicting the events that helped s[ark a fight for equal rights in the workplace in England in the late 60’s.

The story moves along at a great pace and they find a way to try and show both sides of the story in a way that makes it even easier to choose a side to root for.

The entire cast of this film is great but both Sally Hawkins and Bob Hoskins stand out more than anyone else with their performances.

Loved seeing Richard Schiff in this film in an almost unrecognizable role and he manages to give a very sympathetic performance despite the tings his character stands for.

The story is told in a very interesting way and they manage to keep things quite engaging throughout even if the conclusion of things feels a bit too predictable.

Bottom Line – Great depiction of the events that started the fight for equal rights and pay in England. The story moves along at a nice pace and they do a nice job showing both sides of the story which makes it easier to find a side to root for. The cast is great and the standout are Hawkins and Hoskins. Pike is nice in a small role, but doesn’t manage to do enough. Schiff is almost unrecognizable in a great role that is somewhat sympathetic.  The story is told in an interesting way and that helps keep things engaging throughout. Recommended!

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Producer Stephen Woolley got the idea for the film when he heard a 40 year reunion interview with the Dagenham workers on the radio. (From IMDB)

Rating – Globe Worthy (8/10)
