Raising Arizona (1987)

“You want to find an outlaw, hire an outlaw. You want to find a Dunkin’ Donuts, call a cop.” – Leonard Smalls

Number of Times Seen – at least twice (28 Jul 2000 and 7 Oct 2020)

Brief Synopsis – A convict and a police officer get married and when they find out they can’t have children, they steal a baby from a local businessman who just had quintuplets.

My Take on it – I have always been a fan of the Coen Brothers movies and this one was one of their first wcky comedies that is able to wok really well.

The story is both funny and quirky and introduces us to some very eccentric characters along the way.

The Coen’s really know how to create a really enjoyable storyline filled with surprises along the way while also keeping things pretty wacky the whole time.

This film has an intriguing plot that deals with some very serious issues in a comedic way and the fast pacing of things helps keep the story moving along.

This may not be the best film of the duo, but it is able to show the kind of potential that they have in the future by the way that this film is put together.

The film has great dialogue that allows us to see the characters evolve which helps make us care about the different kinds of situations that they get themselves into as the story unfolds in directions one might not expect.

Bottom Line – Fun and quirky film that works due to the way that the Coen’s know how to create such an enjoyably wacky story. The cast is superb and they all shine in these roles. The plot deals with some very interesting ideas and allows for things to move at a great pace. This may not be the best Coen Brother film, but it shows early on, how much potential they have because of the way that they construct this movie.  The dialogue works really well in helping establish these characters and situations that they eventually get themselves into along the way. Recommended!

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – According to Ethan Coen, Nicolas Cage was crazy about his Woody Woodpecker haircut and that it reacted to H.I.’s stress level. The bigger the danger he’s in, the bigger the wave in his hair gets. (From IMDB)

Rating – Globe Worthy (7/10)
