Addams Family Values (1993)

“[to Fester] You’ll meet someone. Someone very special. Someone who won’t press charges.” – Gomez

Number of Times Seen – More than five times (Theater in ’93, cable, video, DVD, 21 Aug 1999 and 14 Oct 2020)

Brief Synopsis – After a beautiful criminal seduces Uncle Fester and wants to marry him for his fortune, the rest of the family get together in order to stop things.

My Take on it – This is  film sequel that is able to expertly build on the plot of the previous film and enhance things since there is no need to develop the characters on a deeper level.

The superb cast from the previous film all return and continue to make Gothic humor so enjoyable to watch.

This film gives a more prominent role to the dark views on life that the kids have and that adds such a great dynamic to the story especially when they are away in summer camp.

The story gives us a sharp contrast between the way that the Addams’ act and the way ‘normal’ society act, but they twist things in a way that makes us prefer the dark perspective of this crazy and kookie family.

The film’s plot ha been done before, but the dark humor, dark dialogue and even darker characters help make this so much fun to watch unfold.

The pacing is great and that helps things play out so well along the way.

Bottom Line – Great sequel that is able to continue the story line of the previous film. The superb cast returns here and even the children with their dark views on life have a more prominent part in this film. The film does a wonderful job showing the sharp contrast between this family and the ‘normal’ families but do so in a way that anyone might prefer to live with the Addams family. The plot itself is a simple one, yet they find some great ways to keep things so funny and engaging throughout. Recommended!

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Twenty years after this movie was released, it was revealed that Christina Ricci didn’t like kissing David Krumholtz. During filming, she kept complaining that he had a peach fuzz on his upper lip. She didn’t like that. (From IMDB)

Rating – Globe Worthy (8/10)
