The Smurfs (2011)

“[upon arrival in Central Park] What manner of freakish hell is this?” – Gargamel

Number of Times Seen – Twice (13 Aug 2011 and 23 Feb 2021)

Brief Synopsis – While trying to escape the clucthes of Gargamel, a group of Smurfs end up going through a magical portal that brings them to New York City.

My Take on it – Fun story that is ale to integrate both live action and animation is such a clever way that plays out in such an enjoyable and entertaining way.

The idea of bringing the Smurfs into the world we live in is quite good and they find a plausible way to do this.

Unfortunately, the plot itself is a bit too generic and fails to make things feel more enjoyable.

The animation is superbly done and it really looks as if the humans and Smurfs are truly interacting with one another.

The film has a great live action and voice cast that works really well.

Loved seeing Neil Patrick Harris, Sofia Vergara and Hank Azaria in this as some of the live action cast.

It was also great to hear the voices of Jonathan Winters, Katy Perry, Jeff Foxworthy, Anton Yelchin, Fred Armisen, George Lopez and Alan Cumming since they are all so much fun as the voices of the Smurfs.

The music is superb and helps keep things moving at a great pace.

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – During filming, each Smurf was represented by a different colored dot on the set, and actors and actresses had to remember which dot was which Smurf. (From IMDB)

Rating – Globe Worthy (7/10)
