Brief Synopsis – After being exiled from Asgard and banished to Earth, Tor, the God of Thunder must redeem himself and stop a coming apocalypse.

My Take on it – Thor has always been one of my least favorite superheroes and this film helps cement that idea since they do a lackluster job of giving him a solo story.

This is the weakest of the MCU origin stories but that partially has to do with the fact that this story is the least interesting of the rest of the Avenger storylines.

Too much of the storyline feels “tacked on” and instead of feeling unique and thrilling, it just comes across as being a poor attempt to show how powerful Thor may be even though he still needs to learn a lot about how one deals with being a foreigner on Earth.

Thankfully, the future storylines work better than this one did, guess it just needs the momentum.

Bottom Line – One of the weakest films of the MCU that just doesn’t work well enough. The origin story of Thor is fine yet parts of the storyline feel too “tacked on”.  The fact that it is a small chapter in a greater Universe of stories helps a bit, but as a stand alone, this just isn’t up to par and feels too average.  Thankfully, the storyline gets better as the future films progress, but this is not a very good starting point.  Apparently the story of Thor needed time to gain enough momentum over the period of 6 years in order to finally get great.

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia –  Kenneth Branagh asked Sir Anthony Hopkins to improvise his reaction to Thor’s yelling at him in the banishment scene. Hopkins agreed, and when the scene was filmed, many of the cast and crew present were sobbing. Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston later said they had to struggle to keep their composure during filming that scene. Hiddleston later complimented Hopkins, to which he said, “Ken’s fantastic, isn’t he?”(From IMDB)

Rating – BAFTA Worthy (downgrade from original review)
