Number of Times Seen – At least 5 times (Theater in 1990, cable, video, DVD and 27 Nov 2016)
Brief Synopsis – After he is murdered, a banker tries to keep his lover safe from the evil men who had him killed.
My Take on it –This is a great movie because of its story but also due to the amazingly perfect casting choices of the 3 main actors.
Patrick Swayze was in some great movies, but this is perhaps his very best role IMHO because he doesn’t need to play a tough guy here and instead just shows us how much one can love someone else which seems to go completely against his normal persona as a “tough guy” character.
Demi Moore shows how she can also give a great performance when she plays the grieving girlfriend who is torn over whether to believe in her heart or in his senses. It is quite easy to believe that she is truly suffering here.
The best role tho was given to Whoopi Goldberg who ended up winning an Oscar for this role. Her character is a much wanted comic relief in a very dramatic themed film of love, loss and belief.
I loved the fact that many scenes, some of the characters need to ignore others who are speaking or doing something since they are not suppose to really know that that is happening.
This film is truly a love story that spans time and space and convincingly shows us how it is possible to have such a deep love for someone else even if it means having to cross unknown dimensions to do so.
Bottom Line – Probably Swayze best film because he fits so well as the male lead here. Moore is amazing as the grieving girlfriend who doesn’t know what to really believe. Goldberg was amazingly cast as the charlatan turned real clairvoyant who adds a mix of humor to the very tense and dramatic situations shown here. Truly a love story that spans the dimensions of time and space and shows how deep a love can really be. Highly Recommended!
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Patrick Swayze said that the pottery scene was the sexiest thing he had ever done on film. (From IMDB)
