Number of movies seen from this year – 138
Number of movies reviewed – 129 (including 20 Encore Reviews)
2001 was a year where there were a few amazing movies, but most of the released movies were just good, but not great.
It was the year that two very long lucrative and entertaining movie franchises based on a best selling book series began. Both the first Harry Potter and LOTR movies were just the tip of the iceberg when it came to telling those two stories.
My top ten list features movies from numerous genres and only two of the 5 Best Picture nominees made the cut.
Two of other three Gosford Park and In the Bedroom were very good movies, but still fall a bit short IMHO of being deemed among the Best movies of the year. I am not at all a fan of Moulin Rouge and when I saw it in Nov 2013, I was severely disappointed that it was even nominated.
Choosing my #1 was a bit difficult because I had to choose between a complete story and an incomplete storyline.
Ultimately, I went with the complete story.
#1-6 all are considered among my favorites of their respective genres

Haven’t seen some, but love those I have seen, though I would have The Mummy Returns somewhere. I can watch that anytime. I understand why you picked your #1, but nothing beats LotR for me. 🙂

I like TMR, but not enough for it to make it onto the list. Have u seen BOB? As a full trilogy, Lotr is more powerful, but since only Fellowship came out in 2001 and despite it being my personal fav of the 3, the cliffhanger really makes it feel incomplete. Tnx for ur opinion once agsin my friend!

If we’re counting Band of Brothers as a film instead of a mini-series, then I agree. It is easily number 1 on this list!
