Number of movies seen from this year – 144
Number of movies reviewed – 155 (including 20 Encore Reviews)
2009 was a fun year for movies.
This was the first year where the Oscar Best Picture list was expanded from just 5 movies.
4 of the 9 nominees make this list (The actual BP winner The Hurt Locker has an IMDB release date of 2008, so it wasn’t eligible for this list) I actually believe that the other 4 nominees aren’t as strong – Precious, The Blind Side, A Serious Man and District 9 despite being good movies.
As you can see by the list, this year was heavily populated by great small budget movies that blew me and lots of other people away by the way those movies were presented.
My #1 is probably not on anyone else’s top ten list but that’s probably because most people haven’t seen or even heard of this gem.
#2 restored my faith in remakes (sorta) 🙂

I enjoyed Julie and Julia and Surrogates, but I haven’t seen most of your top ten (and a few I don’t really want to). I’m definitely intrigued though by Taking Chance. It’s in my Netflix queue now. Thanks!

Didn’t enjoy j&j so much but I thought surrogates was pretty good. Neither are close to breaking into my top ten though. Which do you have no desire to watch and why?

I’ve heard Watchmen and IB are really graphic, which definitely doesn’t appeal to me. If I ever find a cut version on TV though, I may check them out. By the way, Happy Passover!

Zombieland was such a nice surprise man.
And I’ll have to check out ‘Taking Chance’ if it cracks your #1 spot for this year. 🙂

You are correct. I haven’t heard of Taking Chances. Haven’t seen some others.
But a lot of the rest of these, I too like a lot. Up is amazing (perhaps the best animated flick I’ve ever seen). Crazy Heart is good, too.
I do not, under any circumstance, like Avatar. I strongly dislike Avatar. But we’ve talked about that before, right?

Yes we have 😉 abd we will have to respectfully disagree on that one. See Taking Chance if u get a chance 😉

You aren’t the first person to recommend that one, actually. Someday.
